Contest Results Announcement 1
If you prefer reading:
Congratulations to all 125 participants who had the courage to enter a track in our contest! I think Steve Gilmore would have loved to hear the talent assembled in response to this contest. Actually, I know he would have loved it. It has been an eye-opening month! This site has such a wide variety of talented, innovative, and industrious artists! And the contest seems to have attracted some new artists as well.
First, one of the main aims of this contest was to increase traffic to the forums, and in particular to Critics Corner. A vital music community benefits all of us! I want to encourage those who have visited this forum for the first time, to consider opening a thread where you can offer feedback, suggestions, and encouragement to one another. This is what Steve did and did so well. You might not be a wordsmith, but if you are willing to listen and share thoughts you can help others.
Secondly, when we have another contest, the presence of a variety of artists who are practiced in listening to others, will supply a new pool of judges. Those of you who might feel that your own genre didn't get the favorable attention it might have deserved, can step in and redress the imbalance.
It has been a very formidable task to compare and rate pieces that are so diverse, that represent so many genres and approaches. How does one objectively compare a soft lofi ballad to an electronic beat? How does one factor in AI use, when assessing the artistry involved? What is the balance when weighing composition and production, tune and performance, lyrics and melody? In each case, the answer is a subjective one, both for criteria and preference. We recognize that every entrant posted a piece of work of which he, she, or they were proud. And each piece had some recognizable virtue or value to all three judges. The results will be posted as soon as our assessing and tallying is complete.
Stay tuned!
